Bar of the Week: The Willaston Bar, Cape Town

The Willaston Bar is one of my all time favourite Cape Town bars, and I’m sure you can see why.  Situated on the 6th floor of the magnificent The Silo Hotel in the Silo District of the V&A Waterfront, a bustling shopping and culinary destination in the heart of Cape Town.

The exquisite Silo Hotel (which opened in 2017) with the picturesque Table Mountain backdrop has been built in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) which houses Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art.  The most striking feature of the Silo Hotel is undoubtedly its pillowed floor to ceiling glass windows.

On the 6th floor of The Silo Hotel, you will find the eclectic The Willaston Bar, named after the first ship to export grain from the original silo complex back in 1924.  The beautiful décor of the Willaston Bar, in fact the entire Silo Hotel, is the work of Liz Biden, owner of The Royal Portfolio Group, of which The Silo, amongst other properties, forms part.

No reservations are possible at The Willaston Bar, a light breakfast is available from 8am and the bar opens for drinks from 11am until late.  They make absolutely delicious cocktails and also offer some interesting options on their Champagne menu.

If you’re popping in, why not make your visit to The Silo Hotel even more memorable by spending the night.  The Silo has 28 rooms, each individually and exquisitely decorated by Liz Biden.  A stay here would be the ultimate indulgence.
