Bar of the Week: Dragonfly, Hong Kong

I am adding a Bar of the Week segment to the Blog, featuring bars so exquisite, so dreamy you will want to leave everything behind and hop on the next plane to get lost in their magic.

The first bar to be featured is the beautiful Dragonfly in Hong Kong.  A creation by the maestro that is Ashley Sutton, famed for some of the most iconic bar designs across Asia.  Inspiration for Dragonfly was drawn from Louis Comfort Tiffany’s stained-glass techniques, as well as the master jeweler and artist René Lalique and everything in Dragonfly was custom handcrafted for them.

Louis Tiffany is very much associated with the Art Nouveau movement which happens to be the same period the Tai Kwun complex where Dragonfly is situated was built.

A giant art piece behind the bar pays tribute to Art Nouveau artist, René Lalique, a French glass designer known for his creations of glass art, perfume bottles, vases, jewellery, chandeliers, clocks and automobile hood ornaments and the exquisite light fixtures adorned with, well … dragonflies were inspired by Louis Comfort Tiffany, American artist and designer best known for his works in stained glass.

Dragonfly is a bespoke cocktail lounge and eatery which opened late 2018. They are situated at Shop 10-G1, Tai Kwun, Hollywood Road, Central District, Hong Kong. They are open daily from 5pm to 2am and it’s highly recommended that you make a reservation (dragonfly@diningconcepts.com) to avoid being disappointed.
