Tasting: Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne Bdb 2007

Champagne Taittinger Comtes de Champagne is always such a treat and probably one of my favourite vintage Blanc de blancs.

100% Chardonnay from the best villages in the Cote des Blancs; Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Chouilly, Oger and Cramant. Aged for up to 10 years in the crayeres below Taittinger’s head quarters in Reims, Comtes has a dosage of 9gr/lt.

Maison Taittinger released their first Comtes in 1952 and this cuvee is only produced in exceptional years. In 2007, the Chardonnay grapes were delicate and clear, and their citrus and white fruit aromas showed great potential with the harvest starting a little later than usual on 30 August.

I always have a few bottles of Taittinger’s Comtes on hand and also have some older vintages which I will let rest for a few years more. In South Africa, you will find Comtes at most premium retailers and you can also get it directly from the Importer, Universal Beverages.
