Oh So Famous Champagne Quotes

I love a quirky Champagne quote … and there have been some fabulous quotes from novelists to screen stars to celebrities and even historical figures in Champagne.  Here’s a pick of some of my favourites.

Ironic words from a man who was notorious for his heavy drinking, in fact he was an alcoholic since his college years, and died of a heart attack at the age of 44.

Other authors, writers and playrights that have penned famous Champagne quotes include, Lorraine Holloway White, Noel Coward, Willie Gluckstern, Oscar Wilde, Arnold Bennett, Hester Browne, David Levithan, Charles Dickens, Roman Payne, Honoré de Balzac and Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey.

Why, thank you Willie Gluckstern, we couldn’t agree more.
This Hester Browne quote is probably one of my all time favourite Champagne quotes.

Arnold Bennett, English writer, getting it right.

Lots and lots of strategies.

And then great champagne quotes from beautiful screen stars and fashion moguls … like Coco Chanel, Bette Davis, Brigitte Bardot and Marlene Dietrich.

Gabrielle Bonheur “Coco” Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971) was a French fashion designer and a business woman and founder and namesake of the Chanel brand.

Ruth Elizabeth Davis was an American actress of film, television, and theater. Regarded as one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history.

Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot is a French actress, singer, dancer, and fashion model, who later became an animal rights activist.

Marie Magdalene “Marlene” Dietrich was a German actress and singer who held both German and American citizenship. Throughout her long career, which spanned from the 1910s to the 1980s, she maintained popularity by continually reinventing herself.

And let’s not forget these famous Champagne quotes by historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte, Winston Churchill and Madame de Pompadour …

Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, commonly known as Madame de Pompadour, was a member of the French court and was the official chief mistress of Louis XV from 1745 to 1751, and remained influential as court favourite until her death.

Some more well-known Champagne quotes by famous figures …

Garry Kimovich Kasparov is a Russian chess grandmaster, former world chess champion, writer, and political activist, who many consider to be the greatest chess player of all time.

John Maynard Keynes – British Economist

Charles Caleb Colton – English cleric
George Orson Welles was an American actor, director, writer, and producer who worked in theatre, radio, and film.

And I’ll finish off with a famous lady of Champagne … Lily Bollinger … the head of Bollinger Champagne from 1941.  Born Élisabeth Law Lauriston-Boubers in 1899, she married Jacques Bollinger, grandson of the founder Jacques Joseph Bollinger.  She took over the reigns of the Bollinger House when her husband died in 1941 and ran it until 1971.  She launched the Bollinger RD vintage in 1961, then the vintage Vieilles Vignes Françaises in 1969.
